Storyland's Voyage to the Moon

My parents took my brother and me to Storyland almost every year in the late 80s and early 90s. It was comforting to step into Old Mother Hubbard's house or ride the tea-cups, but the main attraction was always "Voyage to the Moon". I was nearly brought to tears when my wife and I returned around the turn of last century to find it had been replaced with a giant nerf-gun frag-fest.

The ride itself is unexplainable so I'm glad I found this video. I imagine they instructed their artistic designers to try and simulate a moon adventure appropriate for kids, and then fed them a truck load of acid. A ride like this could only come out of the 80s and we'll never see another like it.

Classic Comedies that Live Up to their Hype -- Airplane

Airplane is the second movie that lives up the hype and deserves the honor of a true timeliness and classic comedy. It's a movie I'm happy to share with my child once they reach 12 or so.

It's hard to be shocked by comedies after movies like Superbad but for some reason when a movie looks this old one expects it to be a bit more tame. While this scene may not be memorable in a movie today it's hilariously unexpected, yet funny every time I watch it.

Classic Comedies that Live Up to their Hype -- The Jerk

There are 2 classic comedies that actually live up to the hype; The Jerk and Airplane. Movies like Caddyshack and Animal House can be funny, but I don't think they deserve the praise they get today. I wasn't alive when they were released so they certainly did not stand the test of time. Airplane and the Jerk, on the other hand, did. Here's my favorite scene from The Jerk as part of a quick ad for the movie.

Super Santos is Super

If you've even been to a beach in Italy you know what a Super Santos ball is. It's priced at around 3 Euro and seems to have a monopoly on cheap and disposable beach balls. The video here is filler, but the song is hilarious. Have your wife translate it, assuming she speaks Italian and you don't.

Solid Potato Salad

This video is amazing, and if you don't watch it from beginning to end you're missing out. My wife and I heard this song on the radio in San Diego in 2008 and thought it was catchy. I had no idea how epic the video was.
